New ME10 2000 Released!
The CoCreate 2D-CAD business team is proud to announce that ME10 2000 version 10.0 was released January 31, 2000.
Partner shipments will be delivered in week 8 and customer shipments will be delivered between week 9 and week 11.
This release has been developed with our customers in mind. With this focus, along with commitment to high quality and the use of the latest technologies, ME10 can be regarded as the best tool for innovation in the 2D-design process.
A few words about why quality improvement took top priority for this release:
Over the last 2-3 years, we have invested in new people and processes and worked on adding new platforms and new concepts in parallel. Some of these functionality enhancements were only possible with major data structure changes. Market pressure and the need to establish new structures resulted in product quality issues. In order to address these issues, we committed to very aggressive quality metrics and invested additional effort in fixing known problems. More than 260 defects were fixed to create this release. Extensive testing and comparisons with former releases have shown that this new release provides the quality you rightly expect.
This latest ME10 release will support the graphics tablets on HP-UX and Windows platforms when using the Classic User Interface.
What’s New in ME10 2000 release 10.0?
One core product
This includes all translators and the parametric module in one product. New licenses are protected with one password.
ME10 Professional iX for Linux
Linux, an open source operating system renowned for its speed, reliability and low cost of ownership, is rapidly gaining acceptance in the information technology marketplace with more than 10 million users world-wide. To support customers in this fast growing market, CoCreate’s ME10 runs on the Red Hat Linux operating system. This offers users the same excellent performance that ME10 is known for, at a much lower total operating cost. ME10 Professional iX for Linux requires a separate license.
All platforms
The architecture of the translator has been changed for better use of the open DWG Libraries. Read & write DWG/DXF 14 for easy, high quality data exchange with other applications. Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) symbols can also be translated. Improved performance, associative dimension, associative hatches and higher correctness of B-Splines are only some of the new capabilities. More technical information can be found in the readme file.
This new MEls client now allows users to adjust license check time (1 - 15 min) and adjust license hold time (20 - 255 min). This enhancement will reduce your network traffic for license checks and allows better license use.
In combination with the new MEls license server (release 5.0 or higher), customers can now use their gray dongle (former PC security device for node-locked passwords) as a security device for the MEls. The node-locked password now behaves as a floating password.
Note: To exchange node-locked to floating passwords or consolidation of security devices (HIL-Module or gray dongle) a node-locked to floating license exchange at minimal costs is necessary. The passwords can be requested for MSU Security Devices (recommended) or LAN-cards. Please refer to the MEls handbook for installation information.
This enhancement increases license flexibility and reduces system administration time. Only one file containing all your passwords and one type of licenses need to be maintained.
Note: The period for the free exchange of gray dongles will expire for support customers on October 1, 2000. After that a license exchange will be required.
This allows customers to reduce system administration by minimizing / eliminating floating to floating license exchanges. Licenses now can be used very flexibly on different hardware.
New manuals for the DWF, VRML translators and ME10 Viewer are available to provide complete documentation for ME10 and ME10 Viewer. The manuals for ME10 Parametric, the DXF/DWG translator and the Configuring of ME10 have been updated. A new structure on the electronic manual CD-ROM allows faster and easier access to the manuals.
Windows platform
The integration with NetMeeting enables direct teamwork on 2D design between different users / departments. A button is implemented to start NetMeeting within the ME10 session. (NetMeeting must be installed on the PC).
The implementation of OLE is now bi-directional. ME10 is able to include other documents (i.e. text documents, spreadsheets, and video) into a drawing. Other leading applications supporting OLE will be able to include ME10 drawings.
The graphical parts browser is now adjustable to maximum drawing space and allows you to work in parallel within the ME10 session while using the open browser.

The software is included on the CD-ROM. Additional information about the MEls and the installation can be found on the electronic manual CD-ROM.
