From john@wagoneers.com Mon Dec 20 17:22:54 2004 From: john I called the local jeep dealer, the parts guy didn't recognize me (early morning I guess) so he quoted me full list street price... for a 99 WJ the fuel pump lists for $297.50 - normal price. I got transferred to the service department... (no one knows me there for sure. ;) it does require dropping the tank. 1.5 hrs, labor total $127.50 at $85/hr. If you have the skid plate it's a 2hr job. the service department said that these pumps are not a problem on the WJ's (and we both commented about the ZJ's). The parts dept only had one on the shelf... that is a good sign for the rest of us. :) Ok, so let's do the math, $300 + $150 = $450. full street jeep dealer prices... So $800 seems a bit unreasonable to me... even at "only" $300 labor. I could make a few more calls to an indepent that only charges about $55/hr and get an aftermarket pump that would still be good quality... you can see where I'm going with this. Like I said... you paid too much... I feel bad about that. I feel bad when anyone is taken advantage of like this. You might go back and ask how they determined this bill as the flat rate manual says 1.5 hrs w/o skid plate, 2 with. bottom line is shop around... I started the FSJ & XJ list on the internet because of things like this... shops taking advantage of people that didn't have the time or the know how... john ---- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Yahoo!
