Paypal is safe if there is an audit trail to back up your actions. In your case, you're not protected if the buyer picks up the stuff from you. There's proof that they transfered money to you, but no proof that you gave them anything in return unless you figure out some way to provide that. They can simply ask Paypal to take the money away from you and give it back to them. I have a friend who sells a lot of laptops on eBay. One buyer requested a local pickup to save on shipping. Paypal notified my friend when the funds were successfully transferred into his account. After the meet, the buyer told eBay/Paypal that they never received the laptop. The funds were then taken out of my friends account and given back to the buyer (who DID have the laptop). On CL, I only accept cash or trade. It's hard enough dealing with flaky people, I don't need the headache of scammers too. > Date: Fri, 26 Dec 2008 16:10:59 -0800 (PST) > From: john > Subject: xj: OT - craigslist / paypal scams? > > have some stuff for sale on Craigslist and know enough > not to go for the international postage stamp/money order > thing... but a few are trying to buy something via paypal... > > how would that scam work? is paypal safe for something like that??? > > trying to sell locally, if not will put it up on ebay... > > dirty rotton scammers... > > thanx, > john - -- Loeb Mobile: 510-551-5087 mailto:loebotomy-at-gmail.com 1977 C-27 #3178 ~ ~ ~ (\_~ ~ ~ 1996 XJ "Never doubt that a few committed individuals can change the world. From: john Subject: Re: xj: Cherokee problems what would you read? what kind of pressure gauge? jim, be careful when giving this kind of info to folks, Michael isn't a mechanic and probably doesn't have those kinds of tools... be specific about the steps... I'm unfamiliar with this technique as well... suspect I'd use my compression tester, but not sure what I'd be looking for... be blantantly obvious in sharing your wealth of knowledge. :) thanx, john _________________________________________________________________ It^Rs the same Hotmail.. That is one serious chunk of metal! NO wonder this thing couldn't do over 40 mph up the Clearview hill! lost power due to melting snow and most likely falling trees... not sure how long we'll be out... hoping my laptop battery will last long enough to upload the pictures. :) used a rechargeable light and a battery mounted drop cord to finish up... need to get gas for my torch on Monday... pix at: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/Dec_27_2008-bed-removal/ uploading pictures from my toughbook via verizon broadband card... when they're all up there this file will be made: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/Dec_27_2008-bed-removal/ALL.html QUESTION: IF I put a Wagoneer axle on this frame will 235's clear the cab? We found that chunk of steel... practically destroyed the carport getting the bed off of the cj-10a... that thing is NOT light... Then I realize I need gas for my torch, then it'll need a pair of axles, a custom driveshaft, a shift lever for the xfr case... and then a bed... most likely will need to extend the frame... fenders... lights, and of course the emissions test... ;) Sure, leave me alone long enough with tools and a vehicle and things start to happen... hence the dismantling of the cj-10a last night during the thaw. :) But I have too many projects and I have to ask myself, WHAT AM I DOING? Sure, y'all have been asking that question for a long time... but now I am. :) So, we're going to put the bed back on it, more or less... and sell the cj-10a... it's a cute little rig, but I need to "focus"... the cj-10a would be a blast for about two trips to town... The thing that scares me the most about it is the fact that it's a forklift engine... I think I'm spoiled by my Mercedes... ;) So, I just need to get my '83 J10 home and get it running... have a buyer for my J10 dump trailer so I think I'm going to use the engine and axles out of the '80 for my '83 and build one nice J10... sure, it'll be a gas rig for now, but maybe some day it'll sport a Diesel. At least it'll be a working vehicle and together... affordable to drive as is... I will probably build a nice, lighter weight trailer out of the remains of '80 J10... will have all the parts to do that... with the J10 I won't need it, but will have it ready to go... just need to wire up my welder... ;) The cj-10a is for sale on CL... the blazer will be getting a quieter muffler, it just does everything I need it to do... family, friends and so on keep telling me so... so I might as well make it nice... despite the fact that it has a vastly inferior 4x4 system... it was snowbound much of this snow event... the WJ was the absolute champ... The Blazer could benefit from a set of real hubs and a real transfer case... shifting into 4wd takes too long, causes an embarrassing pause in ice/snow filled intersections. :) Maybe some kind of limited slip system... nah... next big snow storm we'll just use the Jeep. :) oh yeah, my son and I are moving forward with putting his Ford 460 into the '67 J100 panel, we picked up a C6/NP205 this afternoon... just need a newer front axle for the wag and commence building it up... long term project... he wants to use the 3.07 gears, will put in lockers and keep the 35's... will be pretty cool when it's done actually... I think it'll be a workable idea, with those gears and all that weight it will not be fast. Anyone interested in a rust free '74 Javelin body that has a few dents and no interior to speak of? :) also need to find a home for the 232 I-6 coming out of the Panel before my son tries to put that in the Javelin along with the T-85 and Dana 20 xfr case... :) Decided to sell my toughbook CF-W5 and keep the T-5... ordered a new 250GB IDE drive for the T-5... these little toughbooks are really nice... also planning on upgrading to a Nikon D300 from my D200... let me know if you're interested in either... I even briefly considered putting that 3.3L Diesel / TF727 into a Cherokee, found two with bad engines for cheap... "focus"... :) keep repeating that... but it's hard... :) out of control, but having fun... enjoy your popcorn, john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://johnmeister.com/fotomeister - Trust Jesus: http://freegift.com SAVE power, avoid viruses, use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf SAVE fuel, use synthetics: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of xj-digest V1 #2928 *************************
