I've seen them pull ski boats at the lake, so can't be TOO much of a problem. If you put a CJ on the trailer, you're going to want to have a brake controller and brakes on that trailer. I think this is stating the obvious though. It might not have the wiring already, but you can probably get wiring from the dealer, or get a kit from NAPA (which my 93 XJ has on it). Yea the trailer already has e-brakes, obviously this whole thing is leaning that way. The question is more along the lines of would the bed/ramp of that type of trailer support the weight of a vehicle. How entailed is the wiring? Is there no "blue e-brake" wire if you dont have the factory trailer option? Where did you run the wires from and via to get to the trailer hitch? thanks. DSPO ran the wires on the 93. The 89 has the factory harness. CJ might be pushing the weight limits of the trailer. Most of those have a 3500 lb axle, and you need to count the weight of the trailer too. Since it's not an RV, you'll need a 12v pin (to charge the trailer battery), then the turn signals, brake light, and running lights. Don't think you need reverse lockout. Don't know about the emergency brake light you're talking about. You'd also need the brake control wire. Painless makes harnesses that work as well. DSPO? Whats that? Not sure you checked the trailer. Its a tandem with two 3500lb axles. Max tow for the jeep is what, 5000 lbs, so trailer plus a jeep would be pretty close to that anyway. When I said e-brake I meant electric brakes. Trailer battery? what would that be for? On 6/8/07, Kevin wrote: > DSPO ran the wires on the 93. The 89 has the factory harness. The ZJ is rated for 5K, but it will lag going up hills with that king of weight on it. I just used mine to move a Trooper on a car dolly which is probably that much. I barely made it up the hills. I only had to go 8 miles though. You could pull the trailer and it would handle a vehicle on it, but the ZJ is just not the most powerful thing. I need to clean my "shop" and office... it's out of control... help! need advice, suggestions and local friends to rescue a few items and to encourage me in a daunting task... :) I'm between classes, finished my TMCP, finished the CJ-2A (at least as far as I'm concerned), the 300D is working quite well, the WJ is fine, and I hope to see Omega within my lifetime, not as sure about Superdawg, but nonetheless... I have in-laws coming to visit in a month... next class for me is on the 15th... that means I have this weekend, more or less free... and evenings... I need to clean up... replace the floor in my office, replace the "tent" with a real carport and organize all this cool stuff. And of course figure out how to filter and distribute waste veggie oil without making a major mess or hurting myself. :) Ok, here's the "big picture": http://wagoneers.com/tmp/768-to-be-cleaned/ALL.html I have about 1,200 square feet of valuable "stuff" and have it packed into about 600 usuable square feet... I have books that are out of print and valuable, but not enough to sell on ebay or take them to a used book store, highly specialized books on computer science, electronics, business, psychology, archeology, mechanics, etc. I have about 10 years of 4x4 magazines, magazines I've forgotten about, training material (UNIX/Linux/programming) and of course shop manuals that I may never use... I need clean, dry space to sort this stuff... some items have emotional attachment, some are unique pieces that I'll never use, but are just too cool to toss or give away... I have hardware and brackets and odds and ends that are useful for engine swaps and mounting stuff... need to find a way of organzing (and finding) them. Since I don't have time to seek professional help for my addiction I'm turning to my friends... any and all advice or help would be appreciated. :) I need to clean up my carport and office and get rid of as much of this stuff as possible... some of it of course will be free, others a donation would be appreciated, and some of the items have enough value that I would like to sell them. (the FSJ tonkas for instance, paid antique store prices for most of them, need to recover the investment.) I need to put up shelves and fix the roof of the carport and replace the cheap tent (schucks special from 2 yrs ago, has done what it needed to do!) Anyway, this is a call to local Diesel Benz, FSJ and XJ folks, you know who you are. ;) Need to help figure out what's valuable, what's not and to find a good home for this stuff. The scrap metal will go to my neighbor or any volunteers who want it... I never know which way I'm going to go with a project, that's why I hold on to this stuff... The main project right now is the Grand Wagoneer with the 6.2L Diesel, but there is this nagging idea floating around about a Mercedes powered XJ... or worse, a Gremlin on a CJ-5 chassis with a Diesel engine... ok, so that resulted after that spicy snack right before bedtime, and my wife, who is completely sane, patient and wonderful, would veto that project instantaneously. :) You know without my wife who knows what sort of creations would roll out of the snohomish monster carport? ;) As one of my classmates always says with a grin and sweeping hand motions, "focus John, focus". :) Someone please help me focus, and find the floor... need to replace it... ;) So, I'm going to back the 300D out of the carport and begin the process of sorting car parts out... AT THIS POINT I HAVE FOR FREE: (too good to toss, but not needed) - 4.0L block and head (Mr. Blair?) - some old FSJ arm rests and trim pieces (Mr. Rogers) - assorted driveshafts - railing sections, short pieces of wood trim - broken garden tools (post hole digger needs handles) - assorted parts next to fence on pallet overtaken by weeds... :) For contributions, you set the price: - 10 years of four wheeler/off road, etc. - FSJ tail lights, headlight assemblies, trim pieces, gauges - assorted XJ spare parts - XJ wiring harnesses and computers - '96 XJ 4.0L engine - 360 rear engine cover - 360 air tubes - Business texts, Almanacs and Information Please books - assorted college and grad school textbooks - large 20" high resolution dual-input Sun CAD monitor - (later) dual-booted tower PC with 2.4G CPU, tv card, etc. - (later) dual-booted tower PC with 2.0G CPU, etc. - rear tire carrier from cj - rims? - a few Mercedes parts, 123 series For reasonable prices: - AW4 trans - $150 - NP231 ('92 XJ) - $300 - late '60's FSJ grill - $50 Collector items: (checks accepted ;) - FSJ tonkas - original Willys parts and shop manuals and other documents - a few FSJ shop manuals (older issues) thanx, john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of xj-digest V1 #2593 *************************
