Tried to go to my cabin in the Comanche. Got as far as the switchback next to the waterfall and couldn't go further, so we went back to find something to get traction with. (I couldn't get chains for my tire size) Came up with a semi ingenious plan (I had done it before with clothesline back when I was a poor college student in General Mechanics) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y209/carnuck/Comanche/DSC02839.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y209/carnuck/Comanche/DSC02840.jpg I bought 2 cheapie comealongs (only 12 feet of cable, which isn't enough for 4 loops on the tires) and fed the cables through the rims. Worked quite well at first, but when I reached the last 20 feet before the crest, it became a total ice sheet and I couldn't get enough traction to finish the climb. The truck started hopping and chewing up the cables. (more weight probably would've helped, but my clutch is pretty thrashed too) It sucked that after all that driving (almost 100 miles to get there after picking up my son) we were DENIED only a mile from our goal! From: john Subject: fsj: dana 44 electrax and a T-5 well, have Omega home (91 Grand Wagoneer) with the 6.2L Diesel... it's not running, still have some minor wiring, mechanical and exhaust to finish it... have skin cancer surgery on thursday and hoping that I'll be able to work on the jeep on friday/saturday. :) Anyway, as part of the SuperDawg Project I bought a brand spankin' new Detroit Electrac, TT912A518, p/n 52062. It's a rear unit for the Dana 44. I have a limited slip in my '91 GW and do not plan on building up Superdawg as earlier planned... (I may get a WJ driveline complete for it or go back to stock... unfortunately stock will be hard since curtis may have given away my 4.2L flywheel. :( So, that means I have a brand new, in the box electrax I will consider selling... Retail price is $771, but because they discontinued the product after Eaton(?) bought the Tractech(?) they aren't available any more. The TrueTrac that I had in my XJ was fantastic... excellent limited slip with almost locker like capabilities... the electrax combined the best of both worlds with an electric lock feature. I also have the T-5 and NP208 out of Superdawg that I can't use with no flywheel for my good 4.2L, so I'll probably drop in an Automatic. Anyone want to make an offer on the T-5? It was rebuilt by the PO, and from what I can tell it used the world class (mustang v8) parts. It's not the strongest feeling trans I've ever owned, but it was working fine. let me know... and stand by for news. :) _________________________________________________________________ Shed those extra pounds with MSN and The Biggest Loser! http://biggestloser.msn.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jan 2008 12:01:09 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: xj: Re: T5 info nice page... thanx jim # http://www.5speeds.com/t5.htm john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- there's a solution for every problem; problem is can we afford the solution? - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2008 09:13:09 -0800 From: Jim Blair Subject: xj: Reptillian lubrication or reality? http://www.preignitioncc.com/NE/index.htm _________________________________________________________________ Connect and share in new ways with Windows Live. http://www.windowslive.com/share.html?ocid=TXT_TAGHM_Wave2_sharelife_012008 ------------------------------ End of xj-digest V1 #2731 *************************
