Our current system of tax is based on engine size here in Ireland, see here for the cost.. prices in euros : https://www.motortax.ie/mtoapp/pdf/motortax_rates_2008_en.pdf BUT if a car is over 30yrs old it is then defined as a classic and incurs just a 50e tax rate no matter what size engine (also cars over 30yrs old do not have to pass the National Car Test).
