XJ Down in N California! Hey all - Occasional participant/longtime lurker here! My son just inherited our 1997 XJ. He is on his way to the Santa Clara/San Jose area. Just got a call from him (Sun 3-30 11PM) and the XJ broke down - BUMMER! Sounds liike the alternator went out or something. Charge guage was reading 0 and he drove it until everything died. He is stuck on the highway 505 cutoff between I-5 and 80. West of Sacramento 20 miles or so. Close to the highway 16 exit that runs east into Woodland toward the Sacramento airport. Anyone close? or any suggestions or ideas for towing assistance , etc. To get him off the road. No AAA or anything and of course it is late Sunday night and he starts a new internship/job tomorrow! Any help or ideas are appreciated! Thanks - Howard 425-577-0672 = = = ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2008 00:05:40 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: xj: Re: Minor Emergency! I know that 2 of them are dead (or v.close to it). I suspect the previous owner(s) didn't change to oil very often (if at all!). Have noticed that someone was in there before me to try and repair this (the mechanic I took it to for a look said "put in thinner oil and sell it", but I couldn't do that to someone else.... ) but just replaced one of the heads + rethreaded the rocker arm bolts.
