6. Corpus Christi Rush Hour, I'd been doing 52 mph into a 15 mph South wind for about 4 hours. Was pretty pumped to make it this far. Funny story at the last gas stop before the beach, a guy giving advice about beach safety to some tourists turned to me and said, 'These people from out of town, they just don't know, people die out there.' He gushed over the Jeep. I liked his new $40K Ford.

7. The morning after - decided to use 4WD through the soft sand, The long trail T/As did way better than expected in that stuff, without airing down. I hit a rut in the dark hard enough to dislodge the clutch pushrod from its ball pivot. When you're 8 miles into pitch black and the clutch goes to the floor, it's time to stop for the night. I got out and the stars were drop dead stunning. Never seen Sagittarius like that. Turned out the clutch fork end of the rod was still in place. Talk about a relief. I tied it with a tie down strap...it didn't come loose again. Some friends I thought I might see passed me, so I fired it up shortly after and caught up with them. They were pretty surprised. Spent the next two days fishing, etc.

8. Friends are gone, I stayed for another evening / night.

13. Little known fact, you can set up a Coleman stove on a J10 fan shroud, I-6 valve cover, and power steering pump using the hood as a wind break. Hot dogs, and green beans. Coffee in the morning.

14. Took a break on the way back, very bumpy, beat up the truck pretty well, between 2nd and lugging in 3rd, 12-17 mph. Found the same ruts that caused the problem on the way in.

Fish? Oh, a few Whiting and lots of catfish. Nothing worth a picture. I fed the Jeep oil and gasoline, and we made it home running a 205 degree temperature. I melted ice on the gearshift. Thanks, all, for helping make this happen. - Landon. 79 J10.
