From john@wagoneers.com Sun Aug 25 14:20:12 2002 From: john From the 1982 Jeep Service Manual, page 2D-22 Transfer Case: -------------------------------------------------------------- GENERAL: The model 219 Quadra-Trac transfer case provides four-wheel high and low ranges, a neutral position and a four-wheel high-lock position for use when the vehicle is immobile due to excessive wheel spin. Model 219 provides full-time, fully differentiated operation in 4H range only. The 4L and Lock ranges provide undifferentiated drive modes. In 4H range, differentiation is accomplished through a torque biasing viscous coupling and an open differential connected to the coupling. Two drive sprockets and an interconnecting drive chain are used to distribute input torque. ...uses ATF... I'll see if I can find the blurb on the NP229. hopefully this clarifies a few things... john meister back in Snohomish (and dodging homework... ;) ========================================================================== For Full Size Jeep help see: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/tech - technical information http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs - pictures of FSJ's http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/FSJ-list.html - FSJ list on digest.net http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/digests - list digests more info at: http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/FSJ-info.html see also yahoogroups.com: 1FSJ and FSJparts ========================================================================== Snohomish, Washington, where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... remember, leaving life with out Jesus isn't recommended... ==========================================================================
